February Newsletter 2018

TOES, TAPS & TIDBITS
February 2018

THIS MESSAGE IS FOR ALL PARENTS WHO SAY THEY DON’T READ OUR NEWSLETTERS. (You’re probably not reading this one either.) These newsletters are designed to keep you up to date on what’s happening at the studio. They also serve as a reminder of important dates and deadlines such as costume money, ballet exams, videos, recital dates, etc. Newsletters are now emailed to you and are also on the blog page of our website. We usually have the same IMPORTANT messages on the marker board and the front door, and all newsletters are on the bulletin board. There is no excuse for not knowing what’s going on. Being uninformed hurts your child, as they are not prepared for or miss certain events. We cannot possibly call every student in the school and remind them, which is why we also have a Leggz app. We send out the newsletters on the last week of the month. If you change your email address, please let us know. By the time April comes, we will be updating the “Blog” page on the website almost every week. So please look for them and READ.
ATTENTION PARENTS
Has your child been studying with us for 5 years or longer? If so, please send an email to Mrs. Seiter at yvonne@leggzdance.com with your child’s first and last name and the number of years with the studio. Emails must be received by February 28th, so we can order a trophy for them.
RODEO DAY
Yes, we are open on Friday Feb 16th, Rodeo Day. Our next holiday is Spring Break, when we will be closed March 18th-25th If there is any other time that the schools are closed, except for weather emergencies, we are still open for class. If you are ever unsure, please consult our “Blog” page on our website and read the current newsletter. Or, even better, download our APP!
PARENT’S VISITATION
We will be having Parent’s Visitation the week of February 12th – 17th. Still and video photography are welcome. Please refrain from bringing small children who may disrupt the class. The new Beginning Ballet, Beginning Hip Hop, and Saturday 11:45 Creative Dance classes WILL NOT be having Parent’s Visitation. They have not been studying long enough and it would be unfair for them to have observers.
RECITAL MUSIC FLASH DRIVES
Flash drives of the recital music for each dance will be available for home practice at the end of February. This is a wonderful tool for the students so they can perfect their recital dances. The Flash Drives are $8.00 for the first song, $2 for each additional song, payable in advance, and may be ordered at the desk. As a bonus, if you only use your flash drive for our Recital Music, you may reuse it next year!
RECITAL TICKETS
Recital Tickets are going on Sale starting March 5th. Since, the Bob Carr Theatre is now owned by the Dr. Phillips Center, ticket sales must be handled differently. Please be sure to read your ticket information paper VERY CAREFULLY, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
BACKSTAGE CREW
Time to join our Backstage Club! Volunteers are needed for the rehearsal and the recital to help out backstage. Various positions (which I will assign), need to be filled. If you would like to join in the excitement backstage, please notify my receptionist, Mrs. Seiter, as soon as possible. Please note that when you sign up, I will be placing you WHERE I NEED YOU. That might not be with your own child. Each Creative, Tumblebear and Hippity Hop dance must have 2 volunteer parents. There will be a MANDATORY meeting for all volunteers on Saturday, May 19th from 1-2pm

January 2018
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday & that you are eager to get back to work. We will be learning many new things during this half of the year so we will need your undivided attention.
RECITAL
Mark your calendars NOW! We are unable to change the rehearsal/recital date. Rehearsal will be Sunday, May 27, 2018 during the morning and afternoon. Recital will also be Sunday, May 27, 2018 starting at 5:00pm and ending at 9pm. That includes the trophy ceremony and a 20 min intermission. NOTE FOR ALL NEW STUDENTS: A Leggz Recital is the safest and fastest running recital of all, with each student wearing an ID band and only 7-10 seconds between dances!
SPECIALTY NUMBERS
If you were selected to perform in the Opening or Closing numbers, please let me know, IN WRITING, if there are any dates that you will be unable to attend rehearsals. Rehearsals will be during the months of April and May. I will be putting together the schedule by February 14th , so please let me know by then.
COSTUMES
Costumes have been ordered. Photos of the costumes will be on the bulletin board soon. By the way, it takes 16 hours just to fill out the order forms. This year we ordered from 9 different companies and purchased over $36,000.00 in costumes! NOTE TO PARENTS: Whether you are purchasing 1 or 10 costumes for your child, I know how expensive it is and how hard it is to come up with the extra money at Christmas time. Please consider making small costume payments starting this summer. We will start receiving payments as early as June. Every little bit helps!
PICTURE DAY
Picture Day for this year’s recital will be on Sunday, May 20th . Photos will be taken by Skip Stowers Photography.
EXCITING NEW CLASSES STARTING JANUARY 21st!
We have 6 new classes starting this month. And all these classes, (with the exception of Little Stars), will be in our exciting 30th Anniversary Recital “In the Good Old Summertime”!

WELCOME NEW INSTRUCTOR, NOAH RICHARDSON!
Noah is so excited to be joining the Leggz Dance Academy family! He grew up dancing at his mother’s own dance studio in Georgia since the age of 3 and caught the teaching bug at 15. Since leaving Georgia, he has established himself among the Disney Entertainment scene with such shows as MainStreet Trolley, Disney Channel Rocks, and Festival of the Lion King to name a few. “I love teaching because it gives you a chance to give something back, a passing of the torch from past to present”

NEW FLOORS ARE DONE!
It was a long and hard two weeks, but the studio floors were torn out and completely replaced. (Look for the progress of photos on Facebook). I would like to thank Brian Papenfuss, Nate Smith and Rene Santiago for giving us a few days of their time to help. A HUGE thank you to Robert Longshore of RJ Longshore, LLC, Handyman Services for doing a spectacular job and making sure that it was done correctly and on time. I would HIGHLY recommend him for any renovations or repairs that you may need for your home or business. He has over 25 years of home building experience. 407-908-8063

HAVE YOU MOVED? CHANGED YOUR PHONE NUMBER OR EMAIL ADDRESS?
Please update your contact information ASAP if anything has changed. It is important that we are able to reach you. Thanks.

PLEASE SPEAK UP
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s dance training, studio policies, recital, etc, please don’t hesitate to speak with me! I am more than happy to explain things to you or to “fix” anything that might not be working. I am constantly trying to make things better here at Leggz and I am always open to new suggestions. I can’t be in all places at once, so I rely on other people’s eyes to help. Also, by explaining our teaching methods to parents, we increase our educating power to the students. SO, SPEAK UP!
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that we have classes for ages 18-36 months? These are our Little Stars Classes and they are offered on Friday at 5:15 & Saturday at 10:00am. These are parent/child classes that prepare your little one for our Creative Dance Classes and Tumblebears. Little Stars Classes work on coordination, rhythm, balance and encourage taking turns and learning other valuable social skills. Is your Little Star dancing every time music comes on? Bring her/him in to try a FREE Class!
Did you know that we have Adult Classes? On Monday at 8:00pm we have Adult Hip Hop, Wednesday at 8:30 is Adult Tap, and Adult Ballet/Jazz is Thursday at 8:00. We also have Stretch & Conditioning on Wednesday at 4:00, Mexican Folklorico on Friday at 8:00, Yoga on Saturday at 9:00am, and Belly Dance on Sat at 10:00. Why let your kids have all the fun? Come try a class for FREE and see how much fun dance can be!
ATTENTION ALL BALLET STUDENTS IN LEVELS 1 AND ABOVE
Starting with Level 1, we teach the students Character Dance in addition to classical ballet. Character Dance is performed in all the major ballets such as, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia and Nutcracker. Levels 1& 2 learn Hungarian dance, Levels 3&4 learn Russian dance, Levels 5&6 learn Polish Court dance, Level 7 learns Hungarian Court dance & Level 8 learns Russian Court. To teach these techniques properly, the students must have Character Skirts & Shoes. These need to be ordered by September 9TH so that we can begin teaching in October. If you have not ordered your skirt and shoes, please do so by the 9th. If you sew, we do have a pattern for the skirt that you can make yourself. The skirts we order are made very well and should last your child about 2 years. At that time, you can resell it before ordering a new one. Character shoes are $43.00 and Skirts are either $55 or $65 depending on the size needed.
Also, students in Grades 6-8 need to have a large white silk Free Movement Scarf. The cost for this is $38. This also MUST BE ORDERED BY SEPTEMBER 9TH.
COMMITMENT
If you or your child begins to study dance, I would suggest that a commitment be made for a certain length of time. I do not believe in making anyone take dance lessons, but I strongly feel that once one starts, the commitment should be followed through. Dancing can be difficult and fun at the same time. It will develop discipline determination and self confidence that are so necessary to succeed in life. Its rewards are not instantaneous. It takes patience, energy, and a positive outlook. These traits will not be developed if one “gives up”. Hang in there everybody. You’ll be glad you did when you look back and see your accomplishments.
LABOR DAY
We will be closed on Monday, September 4th for Labor Day. This is one of our yearly holidays, and the classes do not need to be made up. We are going to be open on Saturday, September 2nd.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE RECEIVING OUR EMAILS AND IF NOT, PLEASE NOTIFY US. FOLLOW US ON TWITTER AND FACEBOOK, WATCH OUR VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE, AND PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE BLOG TO FIND OUT WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE AT LEGGZ!

August Newsletter 2017

TOES, TAPS & TIDBITS
AUGUST 2017
WELCOME BACK AS WE START OUR 30TH YEAR!
COULD YOU USE $25?
Any time you recommend Leggz to a friend, and they register, you receive $10 off your next month’s tuition. However, during the month of August, for each friend that registers, you will receive $25 OFF YOUR TUITION! The more friends, the more money you can save!
PROPER ATTIRE
Students must come to class in their proper leotard, tights and shoes to be admitted into class. This is for their safety and is part of the discipline of being a dancer. After all, you wouldn’t go to music lessons without your instrument or football practice without your helmet!
CHARACTER SKIRTS AND SHOES
Is your character skirt too small? Are your character shoes pinching your feet? Well, bring them in and we will try to sell them to someone who needs them.
ATTENTION BALLET STUDENTS IN LEVELS 1-8
Students in levels 1-8 are required to have Character Skirts and Shoes for their classes. This is an important part of their ballet training. Character Dance is necessary for all the Classical Ballets, such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia and Nutcracker. We are the only studio in the area that teaches it! Students in Ballet 3 & above also need ribbons on their ballet slippers.
Students in Ballet 6-8 need a silk scarf ASAP. Without the scarf, they are unable to learn any of the Free Movement work. They also need a long chiffon skirt to match their leotard. Students in these levels may wear any color leotard they want. Please order your silk scarf by September 3rd.
NO JEWELRY OR CELL PHONES
Please be advised, that jewelry of any kind is not permitted in any of our classes. Students will be asked to remove it and we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen jewelry, so please leave it at home.
ABSENCES
When your child is absent from a class, please call the studio and let us know. You can make it up by attending another class. When you do, please let the instructor know that your child is there to make up a class.
ITEMS LEFT AT THE STUDIO
Please pick up any items that are still here. These include: RAD certificates, recital pictures, and recital items. Thanks.
OFFICE HOURS
As you may have noticed, our classes this year are going until 9:30pm. However, the office will only be open until 9. Please make all payments prior to 9pm. Thank you.
ADULT CLASSES!
Why should the kids have all the fun? Time for you to take care of yourself, get into shape, and have fun doing it! We have Ballet/Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Yoga, Belly Dance, and Stretch & Conditioning, ALL FOR ADULTS! So, SIGN UP TODAY!

THANK YOU TO RETIRED INSTRUCTORS, LESLEY WHEELER & LYNN MCDUFFIE!
Please let me take this time to announce that Mrs. Wheeler and Miss Lynn have decided to retire from Leggz. Both have been great teachers and friends to Leggz and our students for 20 plus years. Their loyalty, dedication and expertise have not gone unnoticed or unrewarded. We will all miss them both as they have touched so many lives and trained so many fantastic students. Please join me in wishing them well in the future and we hope they stop by to see us once and a while.

May Newsletter 2017

TOES, TAPS & TIDBITS
May 2017
BALLET SLIPPERS
All ballet slippers that need to be painted will be collected the week of May 8th – 13th and returned the following week. Make sure that your child’s name is written inside their dance shoes and that they have a pair of shoes to wear home. (Not all classes are having their shoes painted; that is up to each teacher, but names should still be placed in all shoes). If your shoes are not being painted, PLEASE CLEAN THEM with a magic eraser before picture day.
PICTURE DAY
Picture Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 21, 2017. Photos will again be taken by Photography by Skip Stowers. (Schedules are attached.) Order forms are available at the desk. Having these filled out in advance will make your day move faster. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your child’s picture time. They should arrive ready to go, costume, hair, make-up. DONNA-THE FLOWER LADY will again be set up outside taking orders for bouquets for those who wish to order flowers for their children. NOTE: THERE ARE 6 CHURCHES IN OUR PLAZA! On Sundays, the place is packed! There is parking available behind our building and behind the buildings in the back. The churches are usually empty by 2pm.
PAYING BY CHECK
April 30th is the last day that we will accept checks for anything pertaining to the 2016/17 dance season. Checks will be accepted for Summer & Fall Registration. (Checks are not accepted for Recital Tickets at any time).
BACKSTAGE CREW
We will have a MANDATORY meeting for all Backstage Volunteers on Saturday, May 20th, at 2:15pm at the studio. You will receive lots of information regarding the rehearsal and your duties during the recital. This will help reduce the confusion at the rehearsal and recital. Please be on time.
ABSENCES!
Please DO NOT be absent from now through recital. There are only a few weeks left and there is still much to learn. Valuable time is wasted going over steps there were taught the previous week. NOTE TO PARENTS: If you were in your child’s shoes, would you want to get on stage and dance in front of 1200 people if you didn’t know what you were doing? That’s what you are asking your child to do when you don’t bring them to class regularly.
ATTENTION ASSISTANT TEACHERS AND GRADUATING SENIORS:
When we line up for finale, do not get on the main stage with the rest of the students. Please line up on stage right in alphabetical order. We will introduce assistant teachers first. You will walk across the stage all together as I announce your name. You will walk and wave and leave the stage on stage left. Do not stop. Graduating seniors will walk on together, but you will stop on stage. I will introduce each of you and tell a little about your future plans.
CELL PHONES
I am going to say this here, and also in the Recital Packet that you will receive when you get your costumes. ANY STUDENTS FOUND BACKSTAGE OR IN THE BALCONY WITH A CELL PHONE WILL HAVE THAT PHONE CONFISCATED! Please do not bring your cell phones with you to the recital.
ASSISTANT TEACHERS
Please let Mrs. Seiter know if you want to assist again next year. Also, we need assistants for summer, so please sign up! We have many new students who would like to assist, and we would like to give them a chance if there are openings. If you don’t tell us that you want to assist, we will assume that you don’t. For those who want to be new assistants, please put in your request with Mrs. Seiter at the front desk. Make sure that you give us your email address. We will be contacting you via email. In order to be an assistant teacher, you must be in Ballet 3 or above and you must sign up to assist classes for the summer. This is when you will receive your training.
RECITAL DVD’S
Recital DVDs are still available to be ordered and may also be ordered at the recital. They are $35 ($45 for Blu-ray), and may be ordered by calling 1-877-234-2266 or go to www.diacomproductions.com. Diacom video will also have a table set up in the theatre lobby.
RECITAL ETIQUETTE
In the upcoming weeks, we will not only be working on recital dances, but we will be teaching your children about the proper way to behave in a theatre. In accordance with that, we are hoping that you will help us out by not trying to come backstage to collect your child during the show. As I am sure you already know, it is terribly rude to leave in the middle of a performance, and I know that you would not want to teach your child to do this. All of our students work very hard and each one of them deserves to perform before a full audience. I thank you in advance for helping us to teach your children this valuable lesson. Also, if you must get up during the show, please do so in between numbers so that the people behind you don’t miss any part of the show. Families must refrain from shouting out a student’s name during the show. We have instructed the students not to do this while they watch the show from the balcony. This is not a sporting event and shouting the students name is distracting and dangerous to the students and audience members alike. Also, please be respectful of other audience members by not standing during your child’s number. You do not know if the person behind you has a child in that number and would like to see it also. Thank you.
STUDENT LEVELS FOR 2016-7
All student levels for next year should be in by May 15th. In order to maintain the student’s privacy, upon your request, I will email your child’s levels to you. You can email your request to me starting May 16th, to lisa@leggzdance.com. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to the teacher. She can tell you how your child is doing and what skills they need to work on. All students develop at a different rate and therefore do not automatically move to the next level each year. Some students who are not quite ready for the next level can sometimes make great improvements just by taking summer classes. Others may need more strength or maturity, and that just takes time. We all work hard to bring out the best in each child!
50/50 RECITAL RAFFLE!
In order to make our FAMOUS 50/50 RECITAL RAFFLE even better, we are selling tickets now! Each year at the recital we give away over $200 to a lucky winner. Since this is our 29th year, let’s see if we can double that pot! Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20. Your chances of winning are much better than any lottery!

March 2017
RECITAL REMINDER
This year our Recital will be on Monday, May 29, 2017 and begin at 5:00pm. Rehearsal will be the same day and will start at 8:00am. Students only need to be there for the rehearsal of their dance(s), (schedule will follow later.) In order to be in the Recital, performing students are required to attend the Rehearsal. NO PHOTOS OR VIDEO TAPING MAY BE TAKEN DURING THE RECITAL. STILL PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOTAPING MAY BE DONE AT THE REHEARSAL ONLY.
Here is a brief summary, for those of you who are new to the recital. We will be on a very tight schedule. We start at 6:00am unloading and setting up equipment. This takes about 2 hours. Rehearsal begins at 8am and goes until 3:00. We take a break until 4:00 which is when everyone is required to be at the theatre, and the show starts at 5:00. The recital runs 4 hours, which is pretty amazing since we have about 55 dances in the show. This includes a 20 min intermission, trophies and finale. In order to shorten the show, we have combined many classes.
BACKSTAGE CREW
Volunteers are needed to help backstage for the recital. At this time, I still need people to help look after the students while they are backstage. Creative, Tumblebear & Hippity Hop classes need 2 parents per dance to volunteer. If you would like to be in charge of your child’s class, you must request that. If we already have enough parents for that class, you will be assigned another one. At this point, we cannot guarantee that you will be in the same room as your child, but we will do our best to accommodate you. Also, if you help backstage you will still see at least half of the show without having to buy a ticket, and you will see your child’s dance. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST ATTEND THE VOLUNTEER MEETING WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, MAY 20th at 2:15pm.
IMPORTANT
Please be respectful to your teacher, classmates, and your body by attending class and getting to class on time. We have had quite a few absences lately. Your attendance is very important because dance is built from a foundation such as language or math. It is quite frustrating to “pick it up” without the necessary basics and it is unrealistic to think your body will stay in shape without being in class regularly. We are working on routines for the recital and it is difficult to choreograph and teach dances without everyone present. ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE ABSENT 4 TIMES TOTAL DURING THE MONTHS OF MARCH, APRIL AND MAY, YOU MAY BE TOLD THAT YOU CANNOT BE IN THE RECITAL!! IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE CLASS OR TO YOUR CHILD TO PUT THEM ON STAGE WHEN THEY DO NOT KNOW THE DANCE!! Note: If you are in Ballet 1-8, due to the Ballet Exams, you will only be starting your recital dance after March 25th. All dances must be completed by May 1st. That means we only have 4 classes to learn the entire dance, so DON’T BE ABSENT!!
PICTURE DAY
Photos will be taken of the students in their recital costumes on Sunday, May 21, 2017 (schedule will follow). The photos will be taken by Photography by Skip Stowers.
As a bonus, if you only use your flash drive for Recital Music, you may reuse it next year!
SPRING BREAK
We will be closed for Spring Break from March 12th- 19th. These classes do not need to be made up; they are figured into our yearly dance session. For the remainder of the school year, there are no other days that we will be closed. We WILL be open for class on Saturday, March 11th. (Make sure to download our APP so that you ALWAYS know what’s going on!)
TROPHIES
This is the last call for students who have been with us 5 years or longer. We must order trophies for the recital and are not responsible if you fail to notify us. Please email our receptionist, Mrs. Seiter, at yvonne@leggzdance.com by March 11th. Please include your child’s first and last name and the number of years at the studio. We must have your request via email. If a trophy is not ordered because a parent forgot to notify us, then the parent will have to pay for their child’s trophy.
MAKE UP CLASSES
We are now in full recital mode. If your child needs to make up an absence in another class, please try to bring her/him to another class that is taught by the same teacher. This will make it easier for them to go over what your child missed and it will help them to catch up.
RECITAL DVD’S
The cost for a Commemorative Recital DVD is $35 ($40 for Blu-ray). However, if you order your copy by March 31st, the cost will only be $25 ($30 for Blu-ray)! You may place your order at http://www.diacomproductions.comor by calling 1-877-234-2266. Don’t miss out! (Order forms will be available soon.)
ATTENTION PARENTS OF STUDENTS AGES 3 – KINDERGARTEN (CREATIVE DANCE, TUMBLEBEARS AND SOME HIPPITY HOP STUDENTS.)
When you signed the recital agreement, one of the statements that you agreed to read, “All students are required to stay for the entire length of the recital”. Parents of students ages 3 through Kindergarten, you do have another option. You may purchase a half price ticket for your child ($12.50) and then they may sit with you during Act 2 of the recital. (This includes all Creative Dance & Tumblebear students and a portion of the Hippity Hop students.) This ticket must be purchased 2 weeks prior to the recital (May 13th). If you decide not to purchase a half price ticket for your child, (or try to purchase one after May 13th), your child will then sit in the balcony with our wonderful volunteers during Act 2. If you try to get your child without having purchased the half price ticket, you will forfeit your $50 recital fee. In order to continue to run a very organized recital, by May 13th , we must have a list of our students who are being picked up by their parents. They will have special markings on their wristbands, and will be escorted to a designated area to be picked up by a parent with the matching wristband. In order to find a student who is not on that list, we have to stop the show and that is just not possible. If your student remains with the volunteers for Act 2, please be assured that your child will be fine in the balcony. (In 29 years, we have never had a problem.) If your child is ill or upset, WE WILL FIND YOU. Otherwise, they are comfortable and enjoying the 2nd half of the show. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to me. We want both of you to have a great show!
STUDIO CLIENT BUSINESS MONTH!
This month we are celebrating some of the businesses that our clients own. I sent out an email telling parents to send me information about a business that they own, so that I can get the word out to all of you! I can’t endorse a business, unless I have used their service or product, but if they are smart enough to bring their child to Leggz, then I would say that their business would be worth patronizing!

TOES, TAPS & TIDBITS
January 2017
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday & that you are eager to get back to work. We will be learning many new things during this half of the year so we will need your undivided attention.
RECITAL
Mark your calendars NOW! We are unable to change the rehearsal/recital date. Rehearsal will be Monday, May 29, 2017 during the morning and afternoon. Recital will also be Monday, May 29, 2017 starting at 5:00pm and ending at 9pm. That includes the trophy ceremony and a 20 min intermission. NOTE FOR ALL NEW STUDENTS: A Leggz Recital is the safest and fastest running recital of all, with each student wearing an ID band and only 7-10 seconds between dances!
RECITAL FEES
In our constant effort to have the most enjoyable, exciting and efficient recital in Osceola county, a refundable fee of $50.00 per family is due by January 28, 2017. This fee will be refunded after the 2017 recital only if the student has attended and remained for the entire length of the recital. If the student leaves or is removed from the recital at any time before the end of the recital the $50 fee will be forfeited to Leggz Dance Academy.
SPECIALTY NUMBERS
If you were selected to perform in the Opening or Closing numbers, please let me know, IN WRITING, if there are any dates that you will be unable to attend rehearsals. Rehearsals will be during the months of April and May. I will be putting together the schedule by Jan 21st , so please let me know by then.
PICTURE DAY
Picture Day for this year’s recital will be on Sunday, May 21st . Photos will be taken by Skip Stowers Photography.
